Good News for Gaylord Ho

Gaylord learned of an art exhibit which was being brought to Taiwan by the Chinese Regional Bishop’s Conference and the Fu Jen Catholic University; “Art and Religion – a special exhibition of Italian paintings from the Golden Age of the 14th to the 17th centuries”. The art was loaned by the Vatican Museum and was on exhibit from Dec. 15, 2006 to Mar. 25, 2007 at the Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall in Taipei, Taiwan.

Gaylord was so struck by the opportunity to bring such a fine exhibit to his home country for all of his countrymen to enjoy that he decided to get involved in the fund raising for this event. Gaylord donated five pieces of art for the auction fund raiser. At the auction party he was approached by the Vatican consulate who was so taken by Gaylord’s sculptures that he wanted to expedite the creation of a new sculpture for the Pope’s 80th birthday in April 2007. Gaylord created “Grace Leads Me Home”, an angel of peace and prosperity, and submitted photos to the Vatican through the consulates office. Just a few weeks ahead of the Pope’s birthday Gaylord received news through the Taiwan consulate that his art had been selected by the Vatican for presentation to the Pope.

The “Grace Leads Me Home” was presented on the steps of St. Peter’s Basilica on April 11, 2007.

Sometimes you do something just from the goodness of your heart with no expectation of a return or of the potential consequences. Gaylord did a generous and good thing and was immediately rewarded by this recognition of his immense talent and his heartfelt concern for humanity.
